Natasha barely breathing from the tight hug spoke in a strained voice. “Can’t- - - breathe!”

“Oh sorry.” Madelia let go of her.

“Good to see you too, Tasha.” Dreda ranted.

“What a hug!” Tasha said still trying to catch her breath.

Madelia chuckled, tapping her on the shoulder she said “sorry…”

Dreda quickly checked Natasha out “Looks like someone’s been adding up during the holiday.” she said teasingly.

“Daddy’s fault… He doesn’t let me do anything.”

  Tasha scoffed.

“He wouldn’t even let me cook my own meal. All he let me do is eat and then I eat again and again.”

“Sounds like you had a great holiday” Dreda chuckled.

“Oh please, don’t give me that” she hung her backpack across her shoulder and they all walked past the school gate. “My holiday was pretty boring. I guess you would never know what it’s like doing a single course over and over again since you are the mayor’s daughter. Your dad lets you do whatever you want.”

Natasha grunt in frustration. “Can you imagine my Dad wouldn’t let me go out... and even when he did, he’d ask Derik never to leave my side.”

Dreda chuckled, “well that’s what happens when your Dad is a military officer.”

  Tasha's phone rang…

Looking at it, she sighed rolling her eyes.

  “Who’s that? Madelia asked curiously

“Speaking of Derik, he is calling. Probably to see how I’m…..”

She suddenly bumped into a guy whom she didn’t see coming.

“Haaaa...” She exclaimed as her phone slip from her hands and scattered on the hard title floor. Natasha froze covering her mouth with both her palm.

  “My goodness...” Dreda gasped.

Tasha turned around to see the guy that bump into her just walking away with both his hands dipped into his pocket like nothing had happened.

Natasha let out a yell. “Hey!!”

He didn’t stop. He just kept walking like he didn’t hear her yell.

Now feeling more agitated, she yelled even louder and angrily. “Who do you think you are?”

That didn’t stop him. Tasha lost it.

“I sometimes wonder where dumb ass guys like you were picked from. So rude, ill mannered and stupid and---”

She stopped talking when she saw him stop. Not knowing what to expect from him, she yelled. “You just bump into me and shattered my phone to pieces. The least you could’ve simply done was---”

Again she stopped talking when he slowly turned around to look at her establishing a direct eye contact with her. It was until then she realized how handsome he was. He had no emotion across his face as he stared at her with weak sad eyes. She let out a fuzzy sound and just stared at him with her mouth opened.

He just stood there with both his hands dipped in- his pocket looking at her with a sore look in his eyes. She didn’t let his gorgeous looks distract her.

She went ahead ranting out her frustration all on him. “I can’t believe such elegance was bestowed upon a brainless knuckle head like...”

“I am sorry...” He uttered coldly, cutting her off.

Those words melted the walls of her angered heart breaking her down.

The wind blew gently across her face.

For a moment, she was silent. She could hear sadness in his words, she felt it. And when she looked again in his eye, she could see right through him. She could see the pains in his eyes.

He just looked away and kept on walking leaving Tasha with mixed feelings. A feeling of being stupid, feeling of guilt, making her wish she could take back all those words she’d to him.

She just stood there watching him walk away. She felt an ice chill feeling tingling down her spine causing her body to shiver.

“OMG” Madelia exclaimed in a low tone.

“What the hell just happened?” She couldn’t believe Tasha just said all those things to him.

“That’s the new guy everyone on camp is talking about.” Dreda added.

“He's cute, he’s hot, and he’s handsome. Oh come on girl, you’ve just ruined us all.” Madelia expressed her disappointment at Tasha.

The alarm watch went off. Tasha took a look at her wrist. “Whatever… I got to go now else I’d be late for class.”

  “But you’re already late.”

Madelia took a quick look at her watch, she said. “---you are about twenty minutes late.”

“Oh Gosh!” Tasha quickly bent down to pick up what’s left of her phone and put them in her bag. “I totally forgot to reset the alarm “

“See y’all after class!” she quickly left them in a hurry.

Dreda stood with her arms folded just shaking her head at Tasha.

The class was already in session when Tasha rush in. She quickly ran past an old bald man putting down some notes on the board.

She tried not to get noticed as she sneaked pass him. She hurried to an empty seat at the back. But then she stopped mid-way into the classroom when she heard her name being called from the front.

All eyes immediately fell on her.

She slowing turned to face the lecturer who wasn’t even looking at her. He was too busy writing down something on the board. He then put a full stop at the end of his sentence on the board then he turned around to look at her.

  “You’re late----”

The small glasses which rest on his nose moved a little as he spoke.

“Am sorry sir, but----” she didn’t allow him finish.

“---again” he completed his sentence shutting her up.

Dr. Legolas, an old science professor known strictly for his disciplinary behavior which compels fear and obedience from his students. He always preferred to leave his lens suspended at the tip of his pointy nose. His little white mustaches complemented his looks as a wise old man.

Tasha's eye moved from Dr. Legolas, it fell on the faces of her colleagues. She felt all their gaze fixed on her.

An awkward feeling of embarrassment came over her. Her gaze returned to Dr. Legolas and she could tell he wasn’t looking too happy about her barging in without his permission.

She breathes out disappointedly. “I’m sorry.”

“Meet me in my office after school.” Legolas said almost immediately.

“Now go take a seat.” He sounded harsh.

She walked drowsily down the class and took her seat on an empty stool behind. She placed her bag and note pad on the table before her. Then she sluggishly took out her books from her bag liked she’d lost all of her strength.

She was totally feeling embarrassed when she noticed the gaze from some of her colleagues were still on her.

Her pen suddenly dropped. She bent to pick it. She felt her elbow nudge against someone sitting right next beside her.

“Oh, am sorry” she quickly apologized.

She felt totally stupid and perplexed when she saw it was the guys who’d bumped into her earlier, the new guy.

He did not care to look at who’d hit him. His gaze was fixed solely on Dr. Legolas in prompt attention to what he was saying.

She stared in awkward silence as she sat beside him. A feeling of nervousness grew within her. Natasha then rehearsed her words of apology carefully in her head. Pushing aside few strand of hairs which covered her face, she turned to look at him.

“Hey, am really sorry about what happened earlier. Bumping into you was an accident and totally my fault. I know I acted so rude and unreasonable right after what happened, so I want to…”

She stopped talking when she noticed that he wasn’t paying her any attention. She could’ve sworn he’d heard her apologies yet He just kept staring straight ahead at Legolas with a straight face pretending she wasn’t there.

Tasha felt totally stupid and completely embarrassed. She awkwardly turned to look up straight.

Ahhhh! She screamed in her head.

  What is wrong with me?”

She was hard on herself for even apologizing in the first place.

Just for once I decided to swallow my pride and apologies, this is how I get treated. I knew I never should have apologized.

She slammed her hands hard on the table. A test tube sitting on the lab table spilled and roll off the table. She gasped as it fell from the table onto the ground but then he swiftly caught it in mid air just before it hit the ground.

He gently placed it on the table right in front of her. He then fixed his gaze on Dr. Legolas. He didn’t utter a word, not even a glance at her. It felt like he was putting in effort to pretend she wasn’t sitting right beside him.

She sat there looking at the test tube which he had placed right in front of her, then her eyes fell on him. She stared in admiration at his built up muscular body. Her eyeball moved slowly from his hard muscular arm up his chiseled face until both their eye met.

She gasped and then quickly looked away pretending to be paying attention to whatever Legolas was saying. She watched him nervously from the side of her eyes, she knew he was still looking at her.

He looked away from her, returning his gaze to Dr. Legolas.

She beat up herself inside. She let out a frustrating groan inside her head. She pinched herself hard.

What’s with this guy? No one has ever made me feel this stupid. She bit her lips hard.

Tasha closed the door, right after coming out of Dr. Legolas office. The dour look on her face showed the meeting with Dr. Legolas didn’t go well for her.

She saw both Madelia and Dreda waiting out for her across the road opposite Dr. Legolas’ offices. She met up with them and they all started walking down the school road.

“...and what did you do this time that landed you in Dr. Legolas' office?” Dreda asked after a few seconds of silence.

“I walked into his class without his permission and now he`s made me feel like I’d committed the worst crime ever.’’

“You did that?” Madelia yelled obviously surprised at her.

“What did he do to you?” Dreda asked “Did he ask you to come with your dad to school or something?”

“I kinda wished he did…” her face folded into a frown. “I can’t believe he placed me on community service for a month, I mean that way too much punishment for what I did.” Tasha sounded pissed off.

Madelia laughed out loud “you are lucky you were not suspended for a month, Or worst, banned from ever stepping foot in his class. Dr. Legolas is a no joke lecturer. Little misbehavior offends him.”

“I’ll keep that in mind next time ...and hey, did I mention the new guy is also in my department?”

  “Cool…“ Dreda squeaked.

“Did you guys get to talk? …to apologies to him or something.” Madelia asked.

“He is just so annoying?” she scoffed “I tried to apologies and guess what? He rubbed it on my face. He ignored me totally and pretended like I wasn’t even there even when I sat right next to him. He made me feel so stupid.” She let out a loud frustrating groan.

“I am never going to apologies that way to anyone ever again… not to him or anyone else.” Tasha said sounding totally pissed off

“Relax girl, He’s just a new guy on camp. Maybe as time goes, you`d get to know and understand him much better” Madelia said

“Well I know something that could cheer you up” Dreda cut in.

  “What’s that?’

Dreda gestured towards the volleyball pitch.

“Volleyball? …no no, am in no mood to play volleyball right now.” Natasha quickly declined.

“Come-on, it’s going to be fun” Dreda said trying to persuade her.

  “…maybe some other time, Dreda.”

“Speaking of the new guy….” Madelia said calling both their attention. “He’s sitting there in the volley ball court.”

They all looked in the direction of the volleyball pitch. They saw him leaning back on an empty seat just watching an ongoing game being played on the pitch.

Natasha’s lips curved into a smile. “Let’s play volleyball.”

  * * *

“Umm… Tasha?” Dreda called out to Tasha right after hitting the ball to her opponent’s court.

“What?” Tasha answered trying to keep her head on the game so she wouldn’t miss the ball.

“Don’t you think you’re overdoing it just a little bit?”

Dreda gestured in the direction where the new guy sat to watch them play. “You’re obviously playing to impress that guy.”

“Yeah, I noticed too.” Madelia added “I’ve never seen Natasha this active in volleyball.”

“What? No! Of course not....” Tasha quickly said in her defense.

She was so distracted that she didn’t see the ball which had been thrown to her coming.

“ahhhh…..” Natasha exclaimed painfully right after the ball fell on her chest before hitting the court automatically giving her opponent the lead score in the game and then the ball roll off the field in the direction of this guy.

  They all stopped to watch.

He stopped the ball with his foot, and then bent to pick it up. He stood up and walked slowly towards them. The girls stared quietly at him as he walked towards them until he got to where they stood.

Standing over Tasha, he stared into her eyes in a way that made Natasha nervous. He stood before her holding the ball in his hands. Natasha didn’t know what to expect from him, she just looked up at him staring straight into his glowing wet eyes.

She felt her heart racing as she stood really close to him looking up at his face. Her gut told her to say something ---anything at all. Before she could utter a word, he stretched his hands forward to hand her the ball.

Tasha placed her hands over the ball to take it from him but he wouldn’t let go of it. He had a strong grip on the ball like he doesn’t want to let go of it.

Tasha looked up at him. He had a fierce intense look in his eyes. He then lean slowly towards her like he was going to give her a kiss, then he brought his lips close beside her ear.

  “Stay away from me.”

His warm breath fell on her tender skin as he whispered these words to her. His voice sounded dangerously low.

He let go of the ball in her hands and then walk away. Tasha stood there rooted to the ground. She didn’t move an inch until after he had left the pitch. She felt the gaze of everyone on her. Her friends just stood there watching with their mouth opened.

”OMG! …that didn’t just happen.” Madelia broke the minute long silence on the pitch.

  CHAPTER TWO: THE UNFORTUNATE

Natasha walked through the living room right into her room, where she saw her hot-headed little brother knocking himself out on a video game. The moment he noticed her presence, he quickly dropped everything he was doing to go meet her

“Great …Natasha is home!” the little boy announced in a loud scream.

“Cut it off Damien.” she smacked him on the head.

“Ouch…” Damien held his head looking at her with a frown. “What did you do that for?”

“Oh please not now Damien, I am so not in the mood for your troubles right now.”

“What do you mean you’re not in the mood for my troubles? I’ve been working my ass out ever since you and Dad left the…”

He stopped talking when he heard the door closed and Tasha was no longer in the room with him.

She met her Dad just before she was about to enter her room.

“Hi Dad...” She greeted him with a weak smile.

“Natasha, you don’t look well, is everything alright?” he cupped his hands around her check.

“I’ve been having a really bad day in school today.”

“Why? Did something bad happened to you today in school?” concern grew over his face

“Just some guy who thinks he can make my life miserable.”

“Is some guy bothering you in school?” He had a frown over his face

“No no, not at all. If
a guy was bothering me, you’d know about it.” She smiled at him to keep the old man from worrying about her. “…beside, there is nothing I can’t handle”

She didn’t want to stick around before he pops another question to throw at her. “…got to go change up now dad, see you at dinner.”

Natasha quickly got into her room and shut her door. Then she let out a long exhaustive sigh. She threw her bag on the table at the corner of her room. Then she kicked the shoes off her feet.

She threw herself on the bed and then exhaled loudly. She then turned to face the ceiling. Her eyes were closing slowly as she let herself relax. Her phone rang on the lamp stand close beside her bed.

“Christ, what does a girl got to do to have a good sleep around here.” She let out a frustrated grunt as she rolls over the bed to pick up her phone.

She saw it was Madelia calling.

“… Some of us here are trying to catch some sleep you know.” She said as soon as she picked the call.

“His name is Kevin...” Madelia quickly responded over the phone.

“What?” Tasha asked trying to get what she meant

“You know, the new guy… His name is Kevin.”

“For real? The semester has barely even begun and you already know his name?”

Madelia chuckled over the phone “wouldn’t bite to just know his name, would it? –at least after what he did to you right there on the pitch. Are you alright Natasha?”

“Why wouldn’t I be?” Natasha answered quickly.

“After what had happened back there on the pitch, I was really worried that you’d…”

“Madelia, I said am fine.” Tasha said rolling her eye “you know your call is really bugging me, I was about to have some quality sleep over here. Alright, I got to go now. See ye later tonight flirty Diva”

“What the hell did you just...?”

Tasha had already hung up before Madelia could finish. She threw her phone on the lamp stand and then went back to bed.

Closing her eyes for just a few minutes, she was already asleep.

The McLaren Senna car drove away right after Kevin got off. Kevin took few seconds to catch his breath before walking up the mini stair to the door.
